Jim Rignanese
In 1986 Jim Rignanese started a small tournament with the simple objective—raise money to help children with cancer. That first year the event raised $5,500.00 for the Dana Farber Cancer Institute. Each year this tournament has grown, and for the last 16 years we have donated over $50,000 each year with a cumulative total of over 1 million for the Dana Faber Cancer Institute.
Jim Rignanese was diagnosed with cancer in 1992. Jim continued to tirelessly raise money to help others fight this disease until he lost his own life to cancer in 1997. Losing Jim only strengthened our resolve to continue to raise funds in his memory.
There have been many scientific breakthroughs in cancer research discovered at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute in the last two decades. The DFCI is consistently ranked as the number one cancer hospital in New England. Dr. Edward J. Benz Jr., President & CEO of DFCI, has recently stated, “Dana-Farber confidently sees that a future without cancer is within reach. Our outlook for patients has never been brighter.”
We are very thankful for your support and the support throughout the local community.
Each of you have provided hope to many unknown patients, and have kept alive the memory of the spirit, compassion and determination our friend Jim had in fighting this disease.
Gratefully,
